Is There Really a Flu Season?

The flu kills more than thirty thousand people in the United States each year. This is because of the great symptoms that come from the flu, including respiratory difficulties, high fever and muscle aches. Many people end up getting the flu because they have contacted people with the flu and do not have the appropriate protection against the flu. However, there is a time of the year known as the flu season when this will be especially prevalent. However, there are other times of the year when the flu can be caught.

The flu season refers to times of the year when people are more likely to get the flu. This is when flu preparation definitely becomes a top priority. The flu season lasts generally between November and April. The reasons as to why this is the peak time for flu is because of the cold weather and the inactivity of people at this time of year. The inactivity comes from the cold weather making it less comfortable to be outdoors, and with this the levels of resistance that one would have for the flu will be significantly reduced.

The flu is especially contagious. Because the flu is infectious it can be spread with ease to other people. However, flu vaccines are used for many people as a means of flu preparation. This generally occurs during the actual season for the flu. The common flu shot is one of the most common forms of flu vaccines that are used. This is given with a shot to the arm from a professional. A nasal spray into the nasal cavity is also used.

The flu preparation should take place before the actual season begins. That's because it takes about two weeks for the shot to be able to fully develop and result in protection. Various clinics are offered right before the season begins.

Of course, even with these flu vaccines it should be noted that while there is indeed a flu season the flu can be contracted at other points in the year. Infection levels will generally drop at the times of the year that are outside of the season. That's because the increased level of activity that people have in the warmer times of the year will be greater and therefore immune systems will be more improved. However, it is best to use some tips for flu preparation outside of the standard season. These include having a healthy diet, exercising and avoiding dangerous habits.

The flu season does indeed exist, but the flu can be contracted at different times of the year. Regardless, the flu is something that requires preparation at all times of the year. Getting the right flu vaccines also helps. It's all important because the flu can indeed be dangerous if it is not handled appropriately.
